Your statement that the Stones have a greater number of iconic songs is accurate, but I would disagree about their being the greatest rock band ever. I mean, there’s iconic and then there’s Iconic-with-a-capital-I. The Stones’ greatest songs are IMO “Sympathy For The Devil” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, but as iconic as those songs are, neither quite compares to LZ’s “Stairway To Heaven” or (IMO their best song) “Kashmir”.
And if we consider the Beatles a rock band, they had more iconic songs than any other group, and really, what song can compare to “Hey Jude”? One of the big thrills of my life was singing that song along with everyone else at Sir Paul’s concert in Safeco Field in Seattle in (in 2012 I think)…and seeing young teenagers singing right along, their smiles just as wide as my own. :)
And then there’s Queen and The Who, Pink Floyd and Rush, Chicago and Boston, Elton John and Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger, The Doors and The Kinks, and so many others…
…we had the best. music. EVER!
