We ran an adult family home and had residents with dementia. One (whose dementia was not Alzheimer’s) stayed with us for three years. She always slept soundly through the night, except for once.

That one night, she woke up at about 4 AM in distress, repeatedly yelling “I can’t breathe!” We finally calmed her down with PRN medication.

Later that day we found out her sister had died at 4 AM, in a home about 80 miles away.

There’s more going on in our minds than we know.
