“Wait, what? You mean I can’t kill COVID-19 with my AR-15? It oughta work — they’ve both got numbers!”

Yeah, that’s not a real quote…but it ought to be. I remember back in the 1980’s (when I was a strong conservative and happily voted for Reagan and Bush), the GOP took pride in having more highly-educated voters.

I left the GOP in 1992 after Iran-Contra and never regretted it, because I could see even then they were choosing dogma over fact and allowing preachers and pundits — and not their party leaders — to set policy…and it was becoming a perpetual came of “I’m more conservative than the other guy.”

As a result, they’ve gone far beyond conservatism and seem to have forgotten what the word even means. They’re nothing but reactionaries now, their policy being “oppose anything liberals and PhD’s say, regardless of how right they may be.”
