To me, the most poignant scene is when Rick allows the band to play La Marseilles to drown out the Nazis. That was filmed in late 1941 or early 1942, and every Frenchman and -woman there truly sang from their hearts for their countrymen in occupied France. That scene never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
