The reason I said that was the totality of injustice and social upheaval that made it possible e.g. slavery/Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Struggle, Women's liberation, the struggle for LGBTQ rights, abortion rights, and war.

Mankind has faced worse individual threats and conflicts before, but I don't think there's a single example where so many major social issues became major political issues all at the same time (relatively speaking).
