The "cheap shot" at Cheney was necessary in that I was showing how his "one percent doctrine" was not a new idea, that there were others before him - like LeMay - who thought much the same...and with even more needlessly tragic results than our invasion of Iraq.

Also, "strategic bombing" refers to bombing factories, shipyards, and transportation hubs - all of which are normally not located in the centers of cities. "Strategic bombing" does *not* refer to firebombing the most densely-populated parts of cities. If you'll check, we did use mostly strategic bombing over Germany. LeMay used strategic bombing over Japan but was dissatisfied with the results after finding that - as in Germany - bombs were still very inaccurate, with only a relative few falling on target on most bombing runs. He wanted "more bang for the buck", as it were, and instead of targeting factories, shipyards, and transportation hubs, began to target the most densely-populated hearts of the cities.

That's not strategic bombing.
