That is true...but not for everyone. The second-largest navy in the world - the PLA(N) - feels it is *not* true. I would suggest that a major motivation for the tilt towards the Indo-Pacific region is threefold: first, to show solid support for Australia in response to its recent diplomatic row with China; second, to further influence India, to break their longstanding association with Russia and to show support against China by showing the flag in the South China Sea claimed by China to be their territorial waters by using that ridiculous "nine-dash line"; and thirdly, to encourage freedom of the seas to minimize the economic effect (and political/economic clout) of their Belt and Road Initiative.

The UK has limited resources, and the Indo-Pacific tilt may be a good example of "getting the most bang for the buck" - or 'pound', as it were.
