First off, you're flat wrong about liberals knowing less of the world - the simple proof lay in the fact that blue states have generally higher educational attainment levels than red states. Furthermore, polls repeatedly correlate higher education with increased liberalism.

As for myself, I grew up a strong conservative in deep-red Mississippi, and it was my travels around this world (and living in a 3rd-world nation) that helped me see past all the BS that conservatives have been pumping out since Reagan took office.
