One could point to certain politicians, but I've seen this among my own friends. A fellow retired sailor's wife had a severe stroke, and within a few months he disappeared and found another girl overseas, and has not since even visited his kids and grandkids. It's hard to put into words how deeply angry I am with him.

This past January, my own wife had a stroke. I'm there, and I always will be. I will never be *that* guy.

Lastly, this is why men love violent movies but hate weepy dramas. We define ourselves by the physical punishment we can take, but just as we are physically stronger than women, women are emotionally stronger than we are. That's why they enjoy "The Notebook", that emotionally-devastating movie which is the bane of all those with elevated testosterone levels.

The key for us men, then, is to recognize that women are emotionally stronger, that we might use that disparity to challenge ourselves to become emotionally stronger as well...because every man who deserts his wife in her sickness is an emotional coward.
