Nothing would have happened to the doctor. This was the land of U.S. Sen. Eastland, our family acquaintance who was twice president pro tem and who was for a generation the most powerful racist in America. He started the "segregation academy" system in protest against Brown v. Board of Education, and I attended one for a year.
