No offense, guy, but you obviously don't know what "administrative discharge" normally entails.

First off, admin discharges like that are almost always the result of 'Commanding Officer's Non-Judicial Punishment' (NJP), and NJP is what happens when (1) a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) is committed that is not serious enough to warrant a court-martial, or (2) if there is not enough evidence to convict at a court-martial.

Pay attention to that last phrase. A court-martial is much like a civilian court, and guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. But you and I know a LOT of people get away with crimes in the civilian world because there is 'reasonable doubt' - lawyers' word games, and all that.

Here's an example of a case I helped with where the accused would *never* have been declared guilty in court...but was punished in a way that ruined his career. This is the kind of instance where "admin discharges" are given. It's NOT a pleasant experience.

BTW, "admin discharges" are also known as "Other Than Honorable" discharges, which can mean a general discharge, a bad conduct discharge, or a dishonorable discharge. The DD, though, is only given at a special or general court-martial. Either way, an OTH is a mark of shame for life, and means it's almost impossible to get any government job.

What's more, I grew up in the very deepest of the Deep South - I have more first-hand knowledge and experience with racism than most white people, like the segregation academy I attended (Google it - they're still around now). And while there is indeed racism in the military (as there is everywhere else), generally speaking, there is on average significantly LESS racism than in the general public.

I know you want to call BS on that, but between you and me, I've lived both sides of the story. I don't think you have. The Navy helped me unlearn my racism. Here's how:

Lastly - and this is on the assumption that you have never served - please do not be so quick to judge.
