Kriegspiel, then, must be the original inspiration behind the Avalon Hill wargames I played for so long when I was younger. Anyone who has ever played an Avalon Hill game could not help but see the similarities.

Avalon Hill doesn't make that kind of board game anymore (though they still make Diplomacy, a WWI political game beloved by Henry Kissinger)...but it's nice to see where they began. Thank you for the article!
