Japan can be a wonderful place, but the very same racism you describe is its own curse...and China's situation will be even worse as the decades pass.

Why? Because of prosperity and population decline. The richer a society is, the fewer children it will have - this is true all over the world. Japan was very prosperous and so had much fewer children beginning in the 80's, and now there's much fewer young adults to take care of the elderly. To make matters worse, while there are many foreigners in Japan, the society and government is so resistant to real immigration that there are even fewer immigrants there who can take the lower-paying jobs like caregiving, much less provide the entreprenuerial spirit that immigrants from poorer nations normally do. More than anything else, this is what is perpetuating Japan's 'stagflation'.

And China's going to have it even worse - it is estimated that by 2100, China will have less than 500M people, a much higher proportion of which will be elderly and unable to help maintain their current economy. Again, the biggest obstacle China faces is the same as Japan's: a cultural aversion to true immigration by and acceptance of non-Han.

In contrast, for all the race problems we have in America, by 2100, it is estimated that we will have a higher population than China. Why? Because despite all the racism, our immigration tradition is still relatively robust...and with it comes those who will keep our economy strong for generations to come.
