If you truly believe that Biden had any illusions about unity with the GOP, then you need to come to terms with your own naivete. Your first mistake was listening to an intelligent and educated man who's been in the nosebleed section of DC power politics for 40+ years and thinking that he is somehow unaware of what he's doing or who he's dealing with.

This is POLITICS, meaning that a politician will often say what he hopes to be true, what he hopes to achieve, but leaves unsaid the likelihood of such really happening.

That system's been around as long as there's been people. You can read it in Plato's and Cicero's writings. Biden is highly intelligent, highly skilled, and is one of the most experienced politicians in America. He knows *precisely* what he is doing. That doesn't mean he'll be successful, but it does mean that he's not the fool you seem to assume.

Here's a rule of thumb when considering the motivations of others: if their speech and writing show that they are more intelligent than average, then it can usually be assumed that they *know* what they are doing and why. This means that when an intelligent person is trying to feed you a line of BS, you can honestly tell that person, "That's BS and you know it."

Trump is stupid. Therefore we can't assume he knows what he's doing, much less why he's doing it. IOW, he doesn't realize his BS is BS at all. He *believes* it.

Biden, OTOH, is not stupid at all. He knows what he is doing and why he's doing it. That doesn't guarantee he's right or that he'll be successful, but only that he is neither the fool nor the simpleton you seem to believe....and that in and of itself should tell you to consider what the goals, motivations, and methods an intelligent and experienced person might use.
