If I read your first response correctly, your brothers served and got out before I entered for my 20-year career...and during those two decades, a great deal changed. My retirement ceremony was the day before 9/11. Did I see racial injustice? Of course. But it never even approached what I'd seen - and been a part of - in the civilian world.
There's currently 2.1M active-duty and reserve military today. Go find a city where there's 2.1 million people between the ages of 18 and 45. Then look at the crime stats, including all the hate crimes. You are NOT going to find any American city of that size that has less violent crime, less hate crimes, and less racial injustice than the military does.
THAT, sir, is why I said the military has less racism than the civilian world.
The military can't read the minds of people when they join, and they can't watch all the social networks all the time. Some white supremacist skinheads are going to get in, no matter how hard we try to stop them. And sometimes they will advance in rank and influence those around them. It is not humanly possible to weed them all out before they cause harm.
What's more, if you'll check, those hate crimes shot WAY the hell up in the last four year directly because of Trump. BTW, if you'll check, of all the services, Trump was *most UNpopular* in the Navy. Most sailors - especially the officers - despise the idiot.
Lastly, I know you're not expecting perfection. You want fairness, and rightly so. All I ask is that you check the stats of racist acts in the military and compare them to civilian populations of the same size, and use that comparison to help you decide which is worse when it comes to racism.
