I strongly agree. Later in that paragraph I link to an experience I had - I'd attended all-white Indianola Academy one year, and the very next year I attended (relatively) nearby Ruleville High School, which had 480 students, only 20 of whom were white. This was the year that Roots first aired...and as I describe in the article, I saw *far* less racism at 95%-Black Ruleville High than I did at 100%-white Indianola Academy.
And that Black girl in the photo - yeah, she is nervous...and the other seem to be treating her as an unwanted afterthought. If I were a betting man, I'd wager quite a bit that's indeed the reality.
