I realize quite well that she was pardoned by Obama…and that pardon is one of the very few areas wherein I strongly disagree with him (you should read my writings where I essentially make myself look like his fanboy). I agree that the fact that she has been pardoned means that we can’t throw her back into jail for the same crime…but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t belong in jail.

If a murderer in federal prison is pardoned by the president, that person can’t be put back into jail for the same murder…but that doesn’t mean that murderer doesn’t belong in jail.

We know that what Manning did resulted in significant harm to our nation’s diplomatic and intelligence efforts in numerous nations…and almost certainly resulted in the imprisonment or deaths of innocent people. Chelsea Manning got very, very lucky that President Obama felt it politically necessary to pardon her. But while that absolves her legal guilt, it will never absolve her of the actual guilt.
