I quite agree with everything you said there. I am not trying to excuse racism at all, for as with the law, ignorance of right and wrong does not excuse the wrong. My only point is that most racists are everyday people who honestly don’t recognize their racism for what it really is. That fact does not make them any less racist.

The key, then, is not to simply condemn racism, but it is equally important to continually educate the public as to why racism is wrong…for without that continual education, those who are raised racist all too easily fall into believing the deliberate lies of malicious demagogues e.g. Trump and certain right-wing political pundits.
