I quite agree. Too many of my fellow whites simply don’t want to understand.

Been there, done that…and eventually unlearned it. But in my experience, very few people will change their minds about such things unless they are forced to do so by their own experiences. Not only that, but when one is raised racist, it’s hard to resist the siren call of those of the same race saying, “hey, we’re like you, and we’re all simply better than those other people because [insert excuse here]”. Exhibit A would be from today’s article in Newsweek:

The League of The South, an organization described by analysts as a neo-confederate hate group, has launched a Russian language page on their website to explore shared ideas on “Southern nationalism.”

“We understand that the Russian people and Southerners are natural allies in blood, culture, and religion,” Michael Hill, the league’s president, wrote in a letter addressed to “our Russian friends.” The note was published online on July 17 — a day after President Donald Trump met with, and praised, Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland.

*resists urge to insert “the stupid — it burns!” meme*

Just another reason why I so often refer to Mississippi as “a great place to stay away from”.
