I make no excuses for Trump's actions. I've said many times his administration was the 'last hurrah' for white supremacists in America. I've also stated many times that he should be standing in front of the War Crimes Tribunal at The Hague for his crimes against humanity.

"But Obama kept kids in cages, and so does Biden even today!"

Picture this: you're a border control agent. You see an undocumented immigrant, an adult with one or more children. You also see by the biometric data that this adult is a convicted (or wanted) felon. What do you do? Do you let them all go their merry way? Do you shove all of them back across the border without regard to what happens to those children (which, btw, was the Trump policy)?

Better yet, what do you do when the children arrive unaccompanied? Do you let them go? Do you push them back across the border?

In other words, sir, it's really easy to sit on the side and make accusations. It's a lot harder when you're the one having to make the hard calls.

Our nation's policy concerning undocumented immigrants who are children (except during the racist Trump years) has largely been this: if the children are in the presence of a felon (whether wanted or convicted), we must take the felon into custody - such people cannot be allowed to enter. What do we do with the kids who are now on their own? We can't just let them go on their merry way. So they have to be kept in a place where they are safe until appropriate family members can be located.

What defines a "place where they are safe"? What, do you think we have the wherewithal to put thousands of kids up in hotels, and to staff every single room with adults to provide the supervision that children need to keep them safe? No. That's not to happen.

This has largely been our nation's policy except during the Trump years.

I was taught a long, long time ago to not be quick to criticize unless I have a better solution to the problem. Have you got a better solution? If you've got a better idea, I'd love to hear it.
