I discovered something living in the Philippines: with the exception of the Second Amendment, they’re much freer than we are here in America (if “freedom” is defined as right-wingers, white supremacists, and libertarians seem to believe). The taxes are effectively quite low (and often unenforceable), the government is relatively weak, and regulations are often a joke. One can do pretty much what one wants…as long as one has money.

It’s hard to get firearms there (unless one has a lot of money), but other than that, the Philippine government (such as it is) seems to be the ultimate goal of America’s GOP.

Your statement:

Nothing is free. Our food isn’t free. Being born isn’t free. Living isn’t free. Dying isn’t free. Getting sick ain’t free. Air and water aren’t even free. Nothing in this world is free. There is no liberty in living, but in America we’ve been taught to fight for something none of us have ever really had.

That is profound…but you’re referring to real freedom as understood by those who are mature and considerate of all others, not the ersatz freedom claimed by Fox News adherents. Claiming one is free doesn’t mean one’s really free. Nazis and Soviets honestly thought they were free, too…because that’s what they were taught to believe.

I’ve long said that there really is such a thing as too much freedom. You proved it.
