FYI, the number of COVID-19 deaths per capita in Sweden is over TWICE that of America…and we’re not exactly doing well ourselves. Somehow that doesn’t make me eager to do what Sweden’s doing.

When it comes to the mortality rate of COVID-19 being not much greater than the flu, it’s NOT the mortality rate that’s the point. It’s the virulence, the ease with which it spreads. The 1918 H1N1 flu had a mortality rate even lower than COVID-19, and it killed over 50M in a year. Why did it kill so many? The virulence.

And COVID-19 is even more contagious.

Of course, all you need to do to prove me wrong is to point out the last time ALL the ICU’s in ALL hospitals in New York City were filled to overflowing with flu patients, and the last time NYC hospitals had to rent refrigerated trucks to store corpses of people who died from the flu.

Lastly, on the economy, didja happen to notice the meatpacking plants shutting down across the country? The Tyson plant in Iowa had two hundred sickened and two died. But I guess in magical right-wing world, those are acceptable losses for low-paid workers on a meatpacking line.

That’s what you and the Right are getting flat wrong about the economy — COVID-19 is so incredibly contagious that if left unchecked, our food distribution system will shut down, and y’all will learn what REAL hunger is like.
