Do you remember the Great Recession? Remember the banks failing and the scores of empty storefronts in malls and shoppings centers? Our economy was in free fall the day he took over. He got the largest stimulus since WWII passed, and from the time the Dow hit its low point in March 2009 to the time he left office, the Dow Jones index literally tripled - no other president can say that (except for maybe FDR).

Do you remember how 16% of health insurance claims were denied due to preexisting conditions? Obama wanted full socialized healthcare like Europe has (and which I strongly support since that’s what active-duty and retired military like me have), but he couldn’t make it happen due to opposition by the GOP and a couple of conservative Dems (yes, we still had those). So he got the best deal that could pass Congress - the ACA.

There was the Paris climate change accords - still the biggest international climate change agreement ever. He made that happen (and Trump pulled us out of it.

There was the preparations for the possibility of a pandemic (which Trump also ended).

There was the agreement with Iran to minimize their involvement in terrorism and to stop their effort to develop nukes (which agreement Trump also ended…and that’s what eventually led to Hamas attacking Israel (and btw, I support the Palestinians and oppose Netanyahu)).

I’ve been alive since 1962, and Obama is the *only* president in my lifetime with zero major scandals.

So yes, Barack Obama was indeed a great president…and the rise of Trump and the MAGA movement was due mainly to white rage at seeing a Black man living in the White House. They didn’t care how much he improved the lives of Americans - they just openly embraced the racism that had been (somewhat) suppressed for two decades.
