Actually, they did deploy in force during the Korean War. After the Incheon landing that saved our bacon there, we pushed the DPRK forces back well into the DPRK...until tens of thousands of Chinese 'volunteers' attacked and pushed us back to the 38th Parallel.

And then there's the violent skirmishes they've had with Vietnam and India.
