1. Chris Rock wanted a tax on bullets. This is on propellant. The difference is crucial.
2. In 1789, when the Constitution was written, we had no standing army (and it was a matter of great debate at the time), thus the “well-regulated militia” qualifying phrase. The implication is clear: if there is no well-regulated militia, the rest of the Amendment is of no consequence.
3. Just because something was included in the Constitution in 1789, that does *not* mean it is appropriate *today*…unless, of course, you still think that a Person of Color should should only count as 3/5 of a human being.
Lastly, I was raised on guns way out in the boonies. I (and my whole family) were very strongly conservative. It took many years, but I began to see through the BS.
But here’s something to think about: go read the 1956 GOP party platform under Eisenhower. Then read the 2012 DNC party platform under Obama. Except for LGBTQ rights, the two are remarkably similar.
You see, the Right has gone so much further to the right that even Eisenhower would be called a “far-left socialist” by Fox News. Y’all are off the edge of the map where there be monsters, and you don’t even know it.
